Where Is GTA 6 Located?
GTA 6 is set in the fictional state of Leonida. Take-Two's first announcement placed the game in "the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond."
Rockstar's GTA VI page describes the story as "a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida." The site also invites you to "Tour a few of the must-see destinations across the sunshine state."
Is Leonida Based on Florida?
Leonida is fictional, and Rockstar does not name Florida on its GTA VI page. Outside coverage makes the link: Shacknews calls Leonida a fictional state "based on Florida."
AP described Vice City as "Miami-inspired" when Trailer 1 came out. Back in 2022, Bloomberg reported that Rockstar had cut the project's scope to a fictional Miami. That was a report, and Rockstar never confirmed it. The official wording stays with Leonida and "the sunniest place in America."
Is GTA 6 in Vice City?
Yes. Vice City is in GTA 6, and Rockstar sums it up as "Vice City, USA. The darkest side of the sunniest place in America."
The game goes beyond the city. Take-Two's wording is "Vice City and beyond," and the Trailer 2 release set the story in "Vice City, USA" with a conspiracy "stretching across the state of Leonida." Our Vice City page collects what we have verified so far.
What Are the Six Regions of Leonida?
Rockstar's site links six regions: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. Rockstar has published a description line for Vice City; we could not read its lines for the other five, so the table marks which details come from Rockstar and which from GamesRadar.
| Region | What Rockstar says | What GamesRadar reports | Vice Atlas page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vice City | "The darkest side of the sunniest place in America." | A city of "decadence and excess" | Vice City |
| Leonida Keys | Jason works for drug runners "in the Keys"; Brian Heder is a "drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys" | A tropical archipelago | Leonida Keys |
| Grassrivers | Region name only (Rockstar) | The wetlands of Leonida | Grassrivers |
| Port Gellhorn | Region name only | A run-down region in decline that was once a tourist trap | Port Gellhorn |
| Ambrosia | Region name only | An industrial region | Ambrosia |
| Mount Kalaga | Region name only | A national park on the state's northern border, with wilderness to explore | Mount Kalaga |
You can see all six on our interactive map. It is an illustrative region navigator, not verified game geography.
How Big Is Leonida?
Rockstar has not published an official size for Leonida. Forbes, relaying Game Informer's cover story, reports that Rockstar's Aaron Garbut put the map at about twice the size of GTA 5's.
We have not seen Garbut's exact words, so treat that as a report. Square-mile figures you see online are estimates, and Forbes lists the exact area as "Not disclosed." Our GTA 6 vs GTA 5 map guide covers the comparison.
